Patricia Ferber is an American artist. She was born and raised in Costa Rica. Dutch, German, Spanish, and English were spoken in her home. Her family immigrated to Los Angeles where she currently resides and has her studio.

Working in the field of Ceramics for over 40 years, an accomplished, both ceramicist and potter, she is primarily a sculptor. She received her BA, MA, and MFA degrees in sculpture from UC Berkeley. There she studied with renowned ceramicist and sculptor, Professor Peter Voulkos.

Among her varied accomplishments during her university years is her rendering artist role for artifacts found in Guatemala with UC Berkeley’s Archaeology Department. For the Museo Nacional de Arqueologia in Guatemala, she reconstructed the largest vessel ever found in the Americas thus far.

 

A freelance artist, Patricia works in varied media. She is a sculptor, painter, educator, curator, and creator of large architectural environmental pieces. These architectural artworks are formed out of rock, metal, and are often megalithic in size. She has built large stone retaining walls for rock musicians, such as Bob Dylan and Don Henley. A collaborative piece made of rock and wood was constructed for 60 Minutes producer Lowell Bergman. Also, she built a two-hundred-foot wall made of rock and metal for renowned San Francisco restaurateur Modesto Lanzone.

Patricia has been commissioned for numerous tile projects. Included is the restoration of the city seal made of glass mosaic tiles, for the City of South Pasadena, CA. Also, a large community-involved tile installation was made for the “New Macy’s,” the former historical Bullocks Department store in Pasadena, California.

As an educator, Patricia has worked for Armory Center for the Arts for twenty years. She has developed ceramic programs for the Parks programs in Pasadena, and most recently for The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Garden. For several years, she also taught classes for at the Keramik-und Töpferschule in Gordola, Switzerland.

 

Through the years she has curated numerous art exhibitions. Most recently, in 2021, she has curated for a second time, a large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibit for The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanical Garden, titled The Nature of Sculpture II. The current exhibition consists of eighty sculptors and their artwork placed throughout several gardens.

Patricia Ferber’s work may be found in the permanent collection of the American Museum of Ceramic Art’s (AMOCA) as well as in numerous other private and public collections.
